The Bath

Recently, Carrington had an episode of diarrhea. Poor thing, he  felt
so bad that when he tried to relieve himself, it got all in his fur, from his
head and paws, to his hind quarters. There was nothing to do but give
him a full bath.
Now anyone who knows cats knows they HATE water. Carrington is
no exception.
In the bath tub, I held on to him, firmly but gently. The warm water ran
over him and he protested with some mournful yawls. However, he didn’t
fight. My hands were always there, keeping him secure so his feet
wouldn't slip, and I reassured him with soft words.
As the water ran over his back and seeped to his skin, it cleaned
away the dirt and mess mired in his fur. It took some time and lots of
water, but Carrington got clean down to his skin. The water that ran off
was dark and murky as it carried away the dirt and the mess.
Throughout Carrington's bath, I never let go. I held on to him, and
communicated love and steadfastness in taking care of him with my hands
and my words. I was there, ready to protect and keep him from
harm.
Carrington didn’t like the water or the process, but he accepted it. He
trusted me. He had learned I would never harm him. He had learned I
would only do what was needed to take care of him, even if he didn't like it.
God holds on to us the same way! During the storms of our lives, He
keeps His hands on us, always protecting, keeping harm away. We may
not like what He is doing, but by trusting Him, we don't fret because we
know that what is happening is for the best. He washes away all the crud
and dirt that has accumulated on us. And when we come out of the storm,
fresh and clean, He holds us close and rejoices over our new clean self.
Life’s storms are never fun, but God uses them to help us be a
brighter reflection of Him. The cleaner we are, the better we reflect His
light. God longs for the day that we can totally trust Him to keep us from
harm through all of life's events, even though we don’t like what is
happening.
